Anti-Social Behaviour

We are aware that there has been a general increase in anti-social behaviour and that residents may be uncertain as to whether, or how, to report it.

Maldon District Council has a Community Safety Team has a good definition of anti-social behaviour (essentially anything which causes you nuisance or aggravation) and a link to report it.

The more reports which are received the greater the resources directed towards stopping the offender(s).  Reporting online removes you from risk.

All our residents, visitors and business owners have the right to enjoy a secure and peaceful environment. We are fully committed to supporting those who are experiencing anti-social behaviour and helping them resolve their concerns.

Anti-Social Behaviour is defined in the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 as a person or persons acting in such a way:

  • “Conduct that has caused, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm or distress to any person”
  • “Conduct capable of causing nuisance or annoyance to a person in relation to that person’s occupation of residential premises, or”
  • “Conduct capable of causing housing-related nuisance or annoyance to any person”

Reducing Anti-Social Behaviours is an agreed priority of the Maldon District Community Safety Partnership (MDCSP)

Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour and its root causes can be very complex, requiring strong local partnerships and effective use of resources.

Within the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Police Act 2014, the Government gave Local Authorities, Registered Social Landlords and the Police, various powers to tackle Anti-Social Behaviour, empower victims and take swift action against perpetrators.

The Maldon District Council Anti-Social Behaviour Policy (under review) sets out how we will deal with reports of anti-social behaviour, examples of anti-social behaviour and partners we work with. P
